Guidance On Connecting Flights Or Changing Airlines While Traveling!

The simplest way to fly is, all the way from origin to destination with one airline that means you are dealing with just one company’s policies and staff. But, sometimes it becomes good choice if you switch airlines or choose connecting flights at a stopover to get from point A to point B and save lot of money. Either way, there are several things you have to watch out for when you go from one airline to another or when not, from checked bags to changing terminals for your next flight.

Book On One Ticket

If you cannot fly with on one airline to your destination, then the best solution is to fly with code share or interline agreements airlines and buy the connecting flight tickets. In this, all your flights can be listed on just one ticket, which makes your trip more comfortable and can handle missed connection much easier. It also means your luggage can be checked all the way through to your final destination. But you can make it easier because code-sharing airlines often allow earning frequent flier miles or points on each others’ flights. And in addition as a perk, they probably have similar luggage policies, including sizing and weight limits and checked bag fees. But you should always check to make sure.

Note: Always verbally confirm the baggage policies with the airline representative, and double-check your baggage receipt too to make sure that your bags are indeed being checked through to your final destination.

Beware Delays & Cancellations

If you’re not able to have all your flights on one ticket, beware with the extra cost of a missed connection. Due to delay or cancellation from the 1st airline if you miss the 2nd airline’s flight, then the 2nd airline might rebook you on the next available flight at no charge or they might not. Each airline has their own rules and policies for this and due to this reason you may have to pay for the next flight or fighting with the 1st airline or waiting on your travel insurance for reimbursement.

Note: if any case you lost your baggage, then you can file the lost baggage claim with the airline that took you to your final destination. Make sure you’re a receipt or tag is attached with your as proof that your bags should have arrived with you.

You May Have To Change Terminals

Most airlines integrate their flights in one terminal of an airport to make it quick and easy to switch planes when you stay with them. But, that means if you’re switching to a different airline, then you might have to trek all the way to a different terminal. This may involves a long walk or you will find yourself waiting on a shuttle bus or inter-terminal train. Always take this into account when you gauge the amount of layover time in the airport.

Note: If you are not able to check your bags all the way through to your final destination, then you will have to make time to go down to the baggage claim area, recover your bags. Stand in check-in line and checked your baggage, then clear security again before you catch your next flight.
