Being the largest airline of Canada, Air Canada is serving the passengers in approximately 200 destinations worldwide. There are 64 domestic and 158 international destinations served across Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Oceania by Air Canada. Passengers traveling by Air Canada should follow the baggage guidelines as you are not allowed to bring everything on board. The rules and regulations are strict and vary as per the destination country you chose to fly.
Know About the Baggage Allowance In Air Canada:
Carry-on Baggage: As a carry on you are allowed to bring 1 standard article and a personal article. The maximum dimensions including wheels and handles for standard baggage are 23 x 40 x 55 cm and that for the personal article is 16 x 33 x 43 cm.
Since there is no weight limit on carry-on baggage but you must ensure that it should be light and can easily fit in the overhead bin or under the front seat of yours.
Liquid and Gels:
It would be better if you purchase the liquid after the security check. No more than 100ml liquid or gel is allowed in cabin baggage. Also, it is not allowed to consume own alcoholic beverages in the flight.
Special Items: In addition to the carry-on items you can also bring some other items that are considered special.
- Garment
- Small purse no more than 25cm x 30cm x 14cm
- Stroller not more than 25.5 cm diameter and 92 cm length
- Snacks and Food Items
- Electronic cigarettes
Checked Baggage Allowance by Air Canada:
The checked baggage allowance depends on the arrival, destination airport and the class of ticket you have purchased. You can directly check the checked baggage allowance on the website of Air Canada.
In case you exceed the allowed limit (number, size, weight) additional checked baggage charges will apply. Also, you need to reach 120 minutes before departure if checking additional bags, or overweight or oversized piece i.e more than 32 kg in weight, 292 cm linear dimensions, and/or 203 cm in length.

Special Items: Items related to sports, music, and hunting are described as special items.
Sports Equipment: A wide range of sports equipment can be transferred on the flight but there are some specific rules and restrictions on it. You have to inform 24 hours before your flight by contacting the staff of Air Canada if you have any kind of sports equipment. Items not accepted as checked baggage
The following items are not accepted as checked baggage because of their overall dimensions:
- Bobsleighs
- Canoes
- Hang gliders
- Luges
- Windsurfing equipment
Musical Instruments: Before traveling with music instruments it is the travelers’ responsibility to properly pack the item in a rigid or hard shell container to prevent the damage.
Carry-on Requirements:
- The instrument is counted as a part of your carry-on baggage so it must meet the carry-on size limit otherwise you have to purchase a seat for the instrument.
- The musical instrument should not exceed 162.5 cm in height/length or 36 kg in weight.
As Checked Baggage:
- It must be properly packed to avoid any kind of damage.
- As per your fare type, the music instrument will be counted as one piece of baggage.
- If it fails to meet the maximum allowance as checked baggage then you have to pay the additional charges.
Hunting Equipment:
- Make sure you register the hunting equipment before 24 hours of the flight.
- If traveling with such equipment, reach the airport 30 minutes before the recommended check-in time.
- Charges will be applied if exceeds the maximum allowed limit as per the fare type.
Air Canada Delayed or Damaged Baggage Policy:
Sometimes, passengers have to face the problem of delayed or damaged baggage. For such situation Air Canada have mentioned its basic regulations as described below:
While traveling on Air Canada, Air Canada Express or Air Canada Rouge flight if you find a delay in your baggage then immediately inform the agent at the airport. In return, you will be provided with a File Reference Number to check the status of your baggage. Also, the refund will be processed that you paid to check your baggage on Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and Air Canada Express flights. In case your baggage is not located within 5 working days the application is transferred to Central Baggage Tracing.
For lost/ damaged items you can claim within 21 days from the date at which you have received the baggage. For this you will need to show the following proofs:
- All original receipts
- File Reference Number
- Flight information and passenger name (as on ticket)
- Baggage tags and boarding passes
