The Stewart International Airport of New York will soon undergo modification which is a secondary airport and about 70 miles north of Midtown Manhattan.
On Thursday, the authorization of name change and $30 million expansion has been given by Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to the airport.
The expansion of the project will be by 19,850 square feet also adding a customs inspection area to manage the domestic and international passengers at the same time at the Hudson Valley airport.
There is a lack of a dedicated area at the airport to manage international travelers. Overflowing with the international traffic is caused by European low-cost carrier Norwegian Air which began flying there in June. Several new European routes have been introduced by the airline from Stewart.
Last year Stewart was used by nearly 450,000 used commercial airline passengers, which was an increase from the total of approximately 275,000 total passengers in 2016.
The target date for completing the project is 2020.
According to Huntley Lawrence, director of the Aviation Department of the Port Authority of New York, changing of the name would be done for rebranding the airport as a convenient, low-cost option for the area.
