Do not worry if you are flying with a furry companion because of the Philadelphia International Airport’s newest feature, which enables owners not to worry about their pet having an untimely bathroom break.
As the result of a 2016 regulation from the U.S Department of Transportation, a new Animal Relief Area is officially open near Gate D3.
According to the law if an airport terminal is serving over 10,000 departing passengers each year, then that airport terminal have to provide animal service relief areas. This is the first of multiple similar stations to pop up in the next few years, as Philadelphia sees some 81,000 passengers daily.
Airport Chief Operating Officer Keith Brune said in a press release: “The permanent relief areas are intended to be helpful and provide a less stressful airport experience for travelers who may have their service animal or pet with them.”
The addition of 90 square foot includes a built-in a basin with plumbing for easy wash downs, doggie waste bags, hand washing station, a fire hydrant, a waste receptacle, and a waiting bench with outlets to charge your devices.
By the end of 2019, the airport plans to open one in Terminal E and others in Terminals A-West and B and C by 2020.
