Many common items used every day in the home or workplace may seem harmless. But when these items transported by air then it can be very dangerous. Because during a flight, variations in temperature and pressure can cause items to leak, generate toxic fumes, or start a fire.
So, that’s why TSA makes some rules on items, and apply to passengers. These rules include restrictions on large and potentially dangerous items, liquids and gels.
Here is the list of prohibited and restricted items of top three airlines
Num1: Alaska Airlines
Many of the items are classified as dangerous goods by the US Government and are prohibited to place in your baggage. The shipment of unauthorized dangerous goods may result in criminal or civil penalties.
So, please secure all lids and caps with tape or other means to protect yours and others’ belongings.
Alcohol:
Alcohol restrictions, such as prohibiting the possession of alcohol vary city to city. Alcohol greater than 24% up to and including 70% (140 proof) is allowed with the following restrictions:
- 5 liters of alcohol per person is allowed.
- You are allowed to carry up to 5 liters of alcohol per package and it must be in retail packaging.
- For carrying fewer than 24% alcohol by volume i.e. beer and wine, there is no specific restriction attached to the amount of alcohol you may pack in your checked luggage.
Batteries & Electronics:
You are allowed to carry the following Items:
- Can bring spare lithium batteries for devices like laptops, cell phones, and cameras, in carry-on baggage only, not in checked baggage.
- Spare batteries must be packed with terminals covered/insulated to prevent short-circuiting.
You are not allowed to carry the following items:
- The passenger cannot carry the electronic devices like electric unicycles, 2-wheel electric boards, hoverboards, gliders, intelligent scooters of any type which use lithium or lithium-ion batteries in either checked or carry-on baggage.
- Passengers cannot carry the Samsung Galaxy Note7 devices onboard an aircraft on their person or packing them in checked or carry-on baggage.
- Damaged batteries will not be accepted for transport.
Ice:
Gel ice can be carried in checked luggage.
- In carry-on luggage, gel containers are limited to 3 oz. per container inside a quart size zip-top plastic bag.
Dry ice may be placed in carry-on and checked baggage.
- Each customer is limited to 5.5 pounds total of dry ice.
- The package must be marked with the net weight of the dry ice or the statement along with the words “Dry Ice” or “Carbon Dioxide, Solid.”
Wet ice is prohibited in checked baggage.
- The passenger can carry the wet ice on carry-on baggage to maintain human organs, tissue samples, etc.
- The ice must be sealed in a heavy grade plastic bag which is then sealed in another plastic bag to prevent leakage.
Pressurized Containers:
- The items like the oxygen tanks, Butane fuel, propane tanks, CO2 cartridges, self-inflating rafts, and avalanche rescue packs are prohibited on both checked and carry-on baggage.
- Spare cylinders of a similar size for a mechanical limb are permitted in sufficient quantities for the duration of the trip.
- Styrofoam containers are allowed in carry-on baggage but not in checked baggage.
- Boxes marked or labeled as containing hazardous materials are prohibited.
Explosives:
- Not allowed to carry any explosive like Fireworks, gunpowder, signal flares, sparklers, or other explosives in their carry-on or check-in baggage.
- Prohibited Flammable liquids like paints, fuel, lighter refills, ready-to-eat-meals, matches, and lighters are not allowed as check-in as well as carry-on baggage.
Liquids:
You are allowed to carry liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes as per the rules of Alaska Airline carry on liquids. So, place these items in a small bag and separate these from your carry-on baggage during the screening process.
Items which are larger than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters prefer to pack them in checked baggage.
Sharp Objects:
Any sharp object like a knife or any other cutting instruments like carpet knives, box cutters, folding or retractable blades, ice picks, straight razors, metal scissors with a cutting edge of more than 4 inches are not allowed in a carry-on but can carry in checked in baggage.
Num 2: Southwest Airlines
There is a number of rules apply to passengers by the southwest airline. The airline includes some restricted items which are not allowed onboard. Following are some items which you cannot carry.
Alcohol:
Southwest allows alcohol to be carried in checked luggage under the following conditions.
- Alcohol (wine and liquor) must be in the original unopened container, leak-proof bag or corrugated box secured with sealing tape.
- The max quantity of liquor is five liters per Customer. Wine is not subject to the five-liter per Customer limitation.
- Alcohol content may not exceed 70% by volume (140 proof).
Batteries & Electronics:
- Dry cell batteries, Lithium Batteries, and Wet cell batteries or commonly used electronic devices are allowed onboard the aircraft. These items must be securely installed in equipment or in sealable plastic bags, or plastic covers.
- Fuel cells are used in portable electronic devices like cameras, cellular phones, camcorders, laptop, and computers. These items are allowed in carry-on baggage only. Max quantity 6.7 fl oz (200 ml) for liquids, 0.4 lb or 7 oz (200 g) for solids, 4 fl oz (120 ml) for liquefied gas (non-metallic) and 6.7 fl oz (200 ml) for liquefied gas (metal).
- Non-spill wet cell batteries can be carried as cargo. The equipment with the battery installed must be protected from short circuit and securely packaged.Cameras and Film:
Screening equipment, Camcorders, and Media cameras are allowed in carry-on baggage. If carried separately from the one allowable carry-on baggage, the camcorder will be counted as your one personal item. Media equipment will not be assessed oversized or overweight charges.
Flammable liquids:
Torch lighters, lighter fluid, strike anywhere matches and fire starter are prohibited onboard.
Flammable Equipment like camp stoves, heaters, lanterns or other camp equipment is not allowed in both checked or carry-on baggage. You can carry these items if the equipment is brand new, unused and still in the manufacturer’s package.
Sharp Objects:
The cutting instruments like knives, axes, and other sharp objects are only allowed in checked baggage only.
Medications and Medical Oxygen:
Southwest is not equipped to transport or provide medical oxygen or other hazardous materials and/or contained gas, either in the passenger cabin or as cargo or baggage.
Num 3: Delta Air Lines:
The TSA maintains a complex system of rules for transporting what a passenger can carry onboard and which cannot. Some objects are prohibited on Delta airlines according to Delta baggage policy , while others may be checked and not carried. Check the items which you can carry and which cannot.
Alcohol:
You can carry liquor but alcohol content should not be more than 140 proof. Know the limits on liquids and what is allowed on Delta airline carry-on luggage and checked in too.
- Only up to 5 liters of alcohol per person between 48 and 140 proof can carry.
- Alcohol which is under 48 proof is allowed to carry in the flight without any restriction.
- The alcohol which you are carrying must be in its original unopened retail packaging.
Ammunition & Automotive:
- As per the rules, the weapons and ammunition must be packed in a small box or case which must be locked properly and placed in checked baggage.
- Ammunition and weapons are to be stored in different cases.
- You can carry the different auto and vehicle parts in carry-on or checked baggage but only if there is no fuel present.
- You can also carry the car engine parts in the checked luggage only if the packed in their original box and free of any type of hazardous.
E-cigarettes:
You can carry the battery-powered portable electronic smoking devices like e-cigarettes, e-cigs, e-cigars, e-pipes, e-hookahs, etc. in carry-on baggage only. But, recharging of these devices or batteries on board is totally prohibited.
Fireworks or Explosives:
The number of Items like firecrackers, Christmas crackers, signal flares or sparklers are not allowed on a Delta flight as carry-on or checked baggage.
Flammable Liquids:
- Carrying flammable liquids with you like a fuel lighter on a flight carry it in your pocket or in carry-on baggage only.
- Up to two lighters are only allowed in your checked baggage as per the U.S. Department of Transportation.
- Torch or blue flame lighters are totally prohibited.
Lithium Batteries:
- You can easily travel with electronics and medical devices which contain lithium cells or batteries like watches, calculators, cameras, cell phones, laptops, etc. as carry-on.
- Spare lithium batteries are also allowed as a carry-on only and must be individually protected to prevent short circuits.
Weapons:
- You are allowed to carry small arms ammunition up to a limit of 11 lbs or 5 kg per person.
- The weapon must be packed in a box and should be for personal use only.
- Stuff like gunpowder like black powder, mace, pepper spray or tear gas is not allowed on board.
- There are certain items which are not considered as dangerous goods and are allowed when packaged properly like Knitting/scissors, Knives/swords, Hairdryer a straightener, hairspray, sunscreen, fishing hooks, fragile glass items, batteries, etc.
