For North American and International flights, the Los Angeles International Airport is a major hub. The most part of the LAX is quite old and undergoing seemingly endless construction.
The airport is divided into 9 Terminals, including an International Terminal. Its terminals are nicest ones and amenities vary with terminals. Each terminal has a different operating schedule, with most closing for a few hours overnight. Here are some things that you can do to survive the LAX Layover.
Bars & Restaurants:
There is a solid amount of dining options at LAX, but the quality depends upon the terminal. Some terminals offer the more food options, with a couple sit-down bars or restaurants to their customers. Other terminals, like the International Terminal, have more in terms of quantity and quality. LA’s best restaurants include Shake Shack, Cole’s, Lemonade, and The Border Grill with the plenty of healthy juice and salad options. So, plan ahead if you are there for the whole night.
Lounges:
At LAX, there are several airlines allow the passenger to access the lounges, whether they are the first, business or economy class travelers. The lounges at this airport offer the services to all class of passengers. The entry fee may be applied for your layover in a more comfortable environment, with drinks, food, and other amenities included. To access the lounges, you have to simply purchase a pass online, pay at the door or use a lounge membership program.
Shops:
Like the dining options, there are several numbers of shops that are sufficient with the best products for too many travelers. Browse common airport stores like bookstores, technology shops, and outposts of skincare, makeup, and travel luggage. The airport is also featured with plenty of spots like Hollywood-themed souvenir shops, plus some surf and sports stores. There are also a plenty of Duty-Free shops and a few boutiques like Fred Segal, Hugo Boss, and Bulgari are located in the International Terminal.
The Art Program:
The LAX Art Program is installed at the number of spots, adds some creative flair to the terminals. Look for permanent public art plus rotating exhibitions. There may even be some live music – from individual singers to bands and choirs playing.
Spa:
There are two locations of XpresSpa, which offers the salon services like mani-pedis and facials, plus massage and reflexology treatments.
Wi-Fi Connection:
Wi-Fi is free at the airport, but it is for 45 minutes. Reconnect as many times as you want by watching a brief advertisement. Upgraded options are available for a fee.
Sleep:
There is a decent amount of seats, benches, and armrests, where travelers can take a nap. The floors near gates tend to be carpeted, so you can spread on the floor for the small period of time. Travelers have recommended a few sleep-friendly areas:
- At Terminals 4 and 7, the chairs are arranged in triangle a configuration, which creates the privacy for passengers.
- Terminal 6’s Arrivals Hall has benches without armrests.
Apart from this, there is several hotels are located within a few minutes’ drives of the airport. Most of them provide airport shuttle service and some offer day rooms.
Attractions At LA:
Outside of the airport, there are a plenty of options like the beach and many neighborhoods, which are worth for exploring. If you have at least 6 hours between flights, then you have enough time to check out an attraction or two without missing your flight.
If you are short on time, head to Manhattan Beach, just south of LAX. If it is not enough for you, then chase the waves or rent a surfboard. El Segundo, just across from LAX, has a nice main street with good restaurants and shopping.
If you have got a long layover, then head to Venice Beach and Santa Monica. The places have excellent dining and shopping options and perfect for strolling. OR, explore Beverly Hills or Hollywood. Downtown LA has brand new entertainment, shops, and restaurants sprouting up around the Staples Center.
