Since the airline first announced in 2016, the opening of United’s new Polaris business class and lounges has been slower than expected that it would be overhauling its onboard amenities and business class seat and creating a new network of Polaris-branded lounges at its major airport hubs both in abroad and the U.S.
As the airline has opened up the second new Polaris lounge in just over a month, it looks like things are picking up speed now. United has opened its third Polaris lounge at its east coast hub at Newark Liberty International Airport following last month’s unveiling of the new Polaris lounge at San Francisco International Airport. Opened in December 2016, the two join the airline’s original Polaris-branded lounge at Chicago O’Hare.
Between gates C102 and C120 at in the airport’s Terminal C, the new lounge opens to passengers past security. The hours for the lounge are 4:30 am – 10:30 pm daily. Travelers in business class on long-haul international United flights and those flying first or business class or departing on the airline’s Star Alliance can access the lounge.
The lounge is only slightly less spacious than its cousin at the San Francisco Airport but much larger than the Chicago Polaris lounge measuring up at over 27,000 square feet. Including 44 workspace-style desk-chair hybrids, it has 455 seats arranged in 15 different styles. Consisting of 450 USB ports and 570 power outlets, 10 private daybeds outfitted with Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, four private rooms for phone calls, and 10 shower suites which are stocked with Spa products. Valet services such as having garments steamed are the facilities that guests can take advantage of personally.
